About Dr. Guntram Berti

Guntram Berti

From 1987 until 1994, I studied mathematics and computer science at the University of Dortmund (Germany), where I graduated in 1994 as Diplom-Mathematiker (the equivalent of a master in mathematics). In between, I spent one year in France at the University of Tours, where I obtained the maîtrise de mathématiques.

From 1995 until 2001 I worked as a scientific staff member at the Technical University of Cottbus in the group for numerical mathematics and scientific computing. During this time, I developed my research interests: The development of universal, reusable software for mathematical and scientific problems. A major tool for these developments is generic programming. In my PhD thesis in 2000, Generic software components for scientific computing, I thoroughly investigated these topics.

In summer 2001, I moved to St. Augustin (near Bonn, Germany) and joined the C&C Research Laboratories of NEC Europe (since 2006 NEC Laboratories Europe). Here, I worked on medical simulation, mesh generation, geometric algorithms, image processing and visualisation. In many practical applications, I developed the research ideas and concepts from my PhD studies towards maturity.

In early 2010, I founded Dr. Guntram Berti - Consulting mathematical methods (CMM) located in Bonn, to develop customised algorithms for my customers and implement them using modern programming paradigms. From time to time, I lecture at local universities on topics like applied mathematics or scientific programming.
